Diary of a Small Business Owner - October 8, 2020

Anyone other than me watching as much of the Major League Baseball playoffs as possible? No?

Figures.

A quick history lesson today: Rogers Hornsby is the only player to hit at least 40 home runs and bat over .400 in the same year (1922). His lifetime batting average is second only to Ty Cobb. He won the triple crown. Twice.

And he never went to the movies.

It wasn't that he didn't believe in diversions and distractions; it was that he didn't want anything to potentially ruin his eyesight and make him less of a hitter.

In today's Diary of a Small Business Owner, I key in on his focus and offer ideas for business owners who want to grow what they're doing by getting rid of what isn't needed.

When our retail store closed, it was gut wrenching. At that point, 75% of our monthly revenue was going to disappear.

So what did we do?

We focused.

And now, through the first three quarters of 2020, we're up more than 21% year-over-year.

Focus works.
