5 Holiday Movies and the Gift Set to Enjoy Them With
Share
The holidays are here. Time for peppermint mochas, gingerbread, and someone inevitably wanting to engage you in the endless debate about whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
Here at Batch, we’ve yet to make our minds up, so we've left it out of our list and called a truce. Maybe next year!
Read on to discover five of our favorite holiday movies – and learn which of our gift sets is perfect for movie night.
1. Eight Crazy Nights
Eight Crazy Nights centers around Jewish characters during the eight days and nights of Hannukah – hence the title.
Davey, a 33-year-old down on his luck, finds himself with an ultimatum: spend Hannukah doing community service as a referee at the youth basketball league, or go to jail. Davey, voiced by Adam Sandler, thinks that basketball will be an easy ride until he meets the head referee Whitey, also voiced by Sandler. Davey's troublemaking ways and Whitey's infectious optimism quickly clash, and holiday chaos ensues.
2. The Holiday
If you've ever experienced the pain of a breakup close to the holidays, then The Holiday is a movie that will make you both reflect and look forward with positivity, while laughing and crying at the same thing!
The all-star cast led by Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black tells a poignant story of wanting to get away from it all during the holidays after a breakup. A house swap arrangement sees the two leading ladies swap LA for London, where they both find way more than they were looking for when they decided they wanted to leave their lives behind for a little while.
3. The Polar Express
The Polar Express is an iconic holiday movie with a wholesome and heart-warming message for youngsters and adults alike. On Christmas Eve, a young boy sees a train headed to The North Pole and is invited along for the ride by its conductor voiced by Tom Hanks.
If you've never seen it, we won't spoil the ending for you, except to say that anything is possible and life is always magical if you keep an open mind and continue to believe.
4. Home Alone
Have you ever met anyone who doesn’t love Home Alone? We’re not sure we have either!
Often cited as the greatest Christmas movie of all time, its billing as "a family movie without the family" is perhaps one of the funniest taglines ever.
Whether you watched Home Alone in 1990 when it was first released or discovered it later, we all have a favorite scene or quote from this movie starring Macaulay Culkin that we can drop to instantly transport ourselves back to how we felt the first time we saw it.
There are now six movies in the Home Alone franchise, but we’re watching the original every time.
5. Miracle on 34th Street
Holiday movies typically don't do very well at the Academy Awards, so the fact that 1947's Miracle on 34th Street won three of them indicates how great this movie is.
The 1947 movie, while set between Thanksgiving and Christmas, was actually released in the summer because the studio head argued more people went to the movies when it was warm! Nonetheless, it performed brilliantly and stands the test of time as a holiday movie favorite.
The 1994 reimagining, which did have its release in the run-up to Christmas, is a fun festive watch, too.
Enjoy your favorite holiday movies in style!
