7 Tips for Throwing a Virtual Office Holiday Party They'll Want to Attend
Share
The office holiday party is one tradition everyone will miss in 2020. Though we’re all a little Zoom’d out these days, we’re here to give you 7 tips for throwing a virtual office holiday party they’ll want to attend!
1. Send the Invite 📬
Go virtual with your existing email marketing provider or a Paperless Post. Or, class it up with a paper invitation from a local printer. In a world where almost everything is online, getting a piece of snail mail from the USPS is a welcome treat.
2. Set the Dress Code 👗
Should folks dress “festive casual,” “cocktail chic,” or in holiday garb like tacky sweaters and Santa hats? Mix it up, and give your team a reason to change out of their pajama pants (or make it pajama party!). You could even hold a costume contest for best-dressed!
3. Plan the Games 🎲
Be sure the agenda includes some fun, holiday-themed team-building activities that work well in a virtual setting. Try adapting some of these holiday games for an online setting. Be sure to send an email well in advance if you want photos from team members or if they will need printouts for games like Holiday Bingo.
4. Send Gifts to Enjoy Together 🎁
Batch specializes in sending holiday gifts for your team to enjoy together from afar. Choose a gift based on your theme or send a themed gift from your home city or let the guests choose which city they want to “visit” with our City Series. Check out our curated business gift sets in our Holiday 2020 Gift Guide, or contact Nancy on our corporate sales team to create your own custom gift box. We can even arrange to have alcohol delivered along with your Batch box thanks to our partnerships with Drizzly and Nationwide Liquor.
Here are three of our favorite Batch boxes to enjoy together during your virtual office holiday party:

5. Organize a Secret Santa 🎅🏼
Is a Secret Santa or White Elephant gift exchange part of your normal office holiday party tradition? With just a bit of advance planning, you can have a COVID 2020-style virtual Secret Santa amongst your team members. Read all of our tips in this post on How to Do a Socially Distanced Secret Santa during COVID.
6. Make a Playlist 🎵
Let the office DJ take the lead on putting together a Spotify playlist (check out the one Zach created featuring all Nashville musicians) to use during the party. Team members can add or suggest their favorite holiday songs. Try starting a Spotify Group Session to keep everyone on the same beat! This is a fun way to keep things lively during lulls in the party, like when coworkers are signing into the meeting, opening gifts, or when things are (ahem!) wrapping up.
7. Pick Festive Backgrounds ⛄
Lastly, don’t forget to have everyone set a festive background for their Zoom window. Snowy hillsides for a white Christmas? Hawaii’s sands for a Mele Kalikimaka? Times Square for a NYE bash? A fully lit menorah for a bright Festival of Lights? The possibilities are endless! The more creative the better, and you can even make a game of guessing the theme or song behind each team member’s background.
With just a bit of advance planning, you can make the 2020 virtual office holiday party an event they’ll want to attend. Let us know how we can help make it memorable with holiday corporate gifts from Batch!
